Salary: £20k to £25K depending on experience, plus pension contributions, plus profit related bonus (PRB) to be negotiated

Period of notice: Two months after probationary period

Job Purpose:
Ensuring the effective operation of the kitchen and kitchen staff and provide all catering for the Centre including buffets for functions.

Job Description:
The Chef has overall responsibility for the safe and effective delivery of food for the Centre for the cafe/bar and catering for special events such as weddings and parties.

You will take the lead in the kitchen and will be part of the wider Gregson Centre team contributing to the overall success of the Centre.
The post holder will be line managed by and report to the Centre Manager.

Main Roles and Responsibilities

• Responsible for the overall management and delivery of the food operation including the preparation and presentation of food, set up and break down procedures.
• Day to day supervision of all kitchen staff
• Manage all aspects of stock control and costs, including price negotiation, ordering and acceptance, maintenance of stock levels, stock rotation, and return of any sub-standard items.
• Ensure all working areas are clean and tidy, and ensure good hygiene practices are followed and maintained by all staff
• Follow best practise regarding food safety including record keeping
• Provide accurate and up to date food allergen information.
• Maximise profits by accurately costing menus and ensuring minimal wastage
• Produce effective rotas to ensure staffing levels are appropriate and efficient, in conjunction with the Centre Manage
• Work closely with the Centre Manager in recruiting new staff as required.
• Oversee staff performance, deal with or report issues to the Centre Manager
• Train and supervise new and existing staff as required
• Maintain training records for all staff.
• Ensure staff are familiar with and comply with Health & Safety policy and legislative requirements.
• Report maintenance issues and over-see maintenance work of staff or contractors as required

• Communicate regularly with the Centre Manager, Bar Manager and other staff as required to contribute to the smooth operation of the Centre
• Ensure customer’s needs are met, and address any issues or complaints.
• Keep up with industry trends and create new menus and recipes.

General Duties:
• Contribute to ensuring that the company works as a strong and cohesive team
• Participate in supervision and appraisal meetings and any training considered necessary by the Centre Manager
• Comply in all areas of work with the organisation’s Equality & Diversity Policy and other policies particularly Fire and Health & Safety policies and safe food hygiene
• Promote, participate in and contribute in all reasonable ways to the overall aims and objectives of the organisation.
• Undertake all necessary administration required to fulfil the responsibilities of this job description.
• Ensure the health and safety of other staff, volunteers and the public
• Uphold and promote the ethos of the Gregson Centre.
• Carry out any new or additional duties commensurate with the post and any relevant tasks as requested by the Centre Manger.
